Mara Manaaki Planting Day
Date: 30th October 2025
On day of Install
a. Final rake of rows and spreading half the allocated compost per row. (Wheelbarrows and spades needed for the students).
b. Digging and mixing in this compost in. (spades needed for this)
For the above activities there can be as many students as staff are comfortable supervising.
d. Allocating trees to rows*. (This will require more focus from us to ensure plants are placed right. A smaller group of around 10 would be ideal. We can do one row with one group and the other with another to involve more students that way).
e. Planting. Again supervision is needed to ensure they are planted at the right depth, placement and roots are cared for and compost added to each planting hole, so a group of 10 would again be ideal).
f. Mulching and watering the rows (can include more students in this process).
* As part of this activity if interested we can play a game first to break down the core principles before they plant. This involves students representing the plants in the row and as the sun (a student) does a turn around the group depicting a year around the earth) we guide different students/plants to come into maturity and guide when they phase out back to the soil, until by 10 turns of the sun the core students/plants are left standing as the mature forest.
