It will require 20 students from all year 5-6 classrooms that are capable of paying attention, taking in the learning and then share it with the rest of the school via presentations and KPS news. This group will go onto use a SHMAK kit towards the end of the year which is an in depth study of the health of the stream using scientific measurements, chemicals and is usually used by whole school students or community groups. So we want the best students you can think of chosen for this activity please.
A waste audit to measure how much waste your school is producing. We ask that you save at least three days of waste - ensure that this is put aside and is not taken by your waste provider during the three days. We need all waste that is destined for landfill AND all waste that you are already diverting from landfill. for example - any recycling, or composting that you are already doing needs to be put aside for those three days. Have a class or small group who is ready to help us with the waste audit. An audit can take around 1-1.5hours depending on how much waste there is. We will supply all equipment needed - tarp, gloves scales and buckets. Please ensure all students are aware they will be handling rubbish and have appropriate footwear.
Duration: 2 hours
